Serious Play Workshop Day

We’re excited to say that besides the XP Days Nordic conference, we’re also hosting an interactive Serious Play workshop day on Saturday 28 September at HUONE Copenhagen. There will be two half-day workshops where you should roll up your sleeves and try things out yourself, allowing you to directy play and try out the concepts yourself.

Experience your Flow

In this workshop you’ll learn:

  • Understand the difference between resource efficiency and flow efficiency
  • What Causal loops are and how they work in an organization
  • Active learning loops (OODA/PDCA)
  • How to learn to draw and read a cumulative flow diagram

This session is run with co-creation in mind. You’ll not only learn the concepts via the simulation, you’ll also learn from the experience of your peers in the simulation

The magic is happening when you can engage with people and discuss

Full description

A dev room, bristling of work. Everybody is trying really hard to finish the goal. Work is ready to be approved, The product owner doesn’t know where to look first. Should he prioritize the work? Look for new work since the developers still have a few open hours each sprint?

And yet…

Nothing of value is delivered, not this sprint, not the sprint before, nor before that. The work items keep piling up, the discussions start to flare “I have all this work in progress, you decide on what I work first!”, or “all this is blocked, I’ll just take another one,  just so I can be busy. My manager doesn’t like us being idle”.

Have you witnessed this?

Or have you been a part of the problem once?

Then come to this half day workshop on flow.

In this  half day workshop you’ll experience in small groups what it is that makes you slow as a whole. Even though you are fully utilized personally.

By introducing concepts as causal loops and active learning loops we’ll introduce you ways on how to improve your situation. In a way that you can use it hands-on at your current role.

What do we expect you bring to the table?

Your own experiences. Everybody has had situations where things where not working, where everything seemed to be running in circles. Be prepared to share them with the audience.

Other than that, bring your good mood, that’s it honestly.

What do we bring to the table?

We’ll provide you with the simulation tools (Okaloa Team Flow), our experience in the field and you’ll leave us with a rucksack filled with ideas:

  • What a OODA and a PDCA loop is and how to work with it
  • What a causal loop is and how to recognize it in  your organization
  • What Little’s Law is
  • What a Cumulative Flow Diagram is, and the useful insights you’ll learn from it.
  • Other concepts like lead time, flow thinking, other metrics to track.

helps you finding your IKIGAI

Combining passion with profession

In this workshop you’ll learn:

  • Introduction to ikigai and LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®
  • Finding your own ikigai using LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®
  • Experience how a constructive conversation can be facilitated. Listening attentively to each other, where research, understanding and concrete decision-making predominate.

Ikigai is a philosophy, a way of life from Japan. You can say “The meaning of life”. Ikigai is based on four principles.

  1. Passion: what do you love
  2. Mission; what does the world needs
  3. Vocation: what are you good at
  4. Profession: what do you can get paid for

These principles show parallels when you use LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® (LSP).  So why not combine them and see what the result will be. In this hands-on workshop we will combine passion with profession.

While building with the bricks, you will start to uncover your own personal ikigai. The outcome will perhaps even show you how to leave urgency behind, find your purpose, nurture friendships and throw yourself into your passions. Bring meaning and joy to every day with ikigai.

Just like with LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®, to reach mastery level in ikigai, it takes time which is divided in small steps. We will build brick by brick towards a result.

The secondary goal of this workshop is to experience LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® and to get a feeling how it might work in your own organization when discussing complex challenges. For what kind of sessions or meetings can I use LSP and what is needed.

The outcome will an overview of your own ikigai, a worked-out canvas a dot at the horizon and the experience of a new workshop tool for your own teams. And of course, we include a small LEGO®-set to experiment at home.
